Burning the Binary
This series of images was inspired by the photographer, Arianna Richard's, passion for promoting identity expression and acceptance. She wanted the photos to be bold, graphic, fierce, and unapologetic. Arianna wanted them to demand acknowledgement, just as she hope their message does. She wanted this demand to mirror the demand so many gender nonconforming humans and allies are making for recognition and the right to express their authentic self.
The subject of these photos is a non-binary person. Through their own gender identification, we aimed to make a statement celebrating and encouraging the subversion of binary notions of gender in order to ultimately abolish the restrictive nature of its ideology both internally and externally for humans.
